Scar treatment in Turkey: medical and aesthetic
The treatment of scars in Turkey consists of treating and erasing the traces of scars by medical treatments such as laser or aesthetic (ointments), or even the combination of the two.
Scars are the natural response of the body, more specifically of the skin, to a wound.
During the healing process the skin produces collagen fibers which are the scar tissue.
This replacement tissue, while identical or at least similar to lost or damaged skin, is very different; It is less elastic, therefore less functional, more sensitive to ultraviolet radiation and unsuitable for the appearance of hair.
Aesthetic medicine in Turkey is able to provide a solution other than wearing a scarf to cover a scar.
Laser treatment aims to regenerate new, better quality scar tissue. All these elements allow us to create a typography of scars:
Keloids: These are scars whose limits exceed the perimeter of the initial lesion and which continue to evolve continuously, their appearance is either red, accompanied by itching, or darker than the skin around them.
They are raised and very common in young people and black people. They can occur at any age.
Atrophic scars:
Appear after acne or chickenpox and are manifested by cutaneous depression following the sudden cessation of healing (tissue failure).
Hypertrophic scars:
They are often the aftermath of a burn. They do not evolve beyond the initial injury. Red in appearance, they usually disappear after a year or two.
The anti-scar treatment must therefore take into consideration the type of the latter.

Procedure of laser scar removal treatment.
This type of treatment is performed in consultation with a doctor. The range of techniques is as wide as it is varied, it ranges from fractional laser to pulsed light through dermorestoration by ablative laser.
The session takes place on an outpatient basis, so in the doctor’s office under local anesthesia, most often lidocaine ointment or another dermal anesthetic.
Once the anesthetic effect has been initiated, the laser passages begin. The patient’s skin is cooled by air during the session to prevent it from overheating, the session lasts approximately 20 minutes.
When the scars are on the face, the patient must imperatively remove make-up and wear protective glasses.
What are the post-operative results of laser scar treatment?
A number of symptoms are observable following laser sessions. These symptoms are witness to the success of scar treatment; these symptoms are:
- Skin dryness.
- Change of complexion.
- Hypersensitivity and tingling.
- White crust.
These contraindications appear after the first session for the most part. They completely fade after a month.
What are the results of scar treatment
The results of the laser are visible after two months from the first session; a number of laser sessions are available to treat a scar.
Contrary to what the name may suggest, no scar treatment will “disappear” a scar; it is therefore necessary to observe the tissue for a year (recent scars), to determine its possible evolution; some scars self-resorb. In the case of a wound caused by a disease, the analysis of a skin sample is essential. The effectiveness of laser treatment mainly depends on the type of scar, it is important to know that in some cases, surgical treatment is necessary to restore certain functional capacities of the skin.
Other techniques to treat scars:
Pressure dressing; softening of burn scars.
Dermabrasion; reduces the relief of scars.
Injection of hyaluronic acid or collagen; restores volume to depression (hollow) scars.
Injection of steroids; flattens keloids.
Radiotherapy; stops the proliferation of keloids.
